The Little Library Project

If someone told me 6 months ago that I'd be using Blue Alien smut as a palette cleanser between my books.. I probably would have laughed at them. But that's apparently the BookTok curse. Once again, I found myself diving into the world of Ruby Dixon's sci-fi romance series and this time we were following Kara's story. Once again, this is a FUN series. The format is similar in all of them, so it's not groundbreaking writing or literary fiction but it's good natured, easy to read and there's plenty of big blue alien d*ck.

  I am going to willingly admit that I am enjoying this series. It's quickly become my guilty pleasure and.. newsflash, I read for so many reasons but the primary one - is to have fun.  And this series definitely delivers.  Following on from Vektal and Georgie's story in Ice Planet Barbarian, this instalment follows hotheaded Liz and brooding Raahosh as they realise they're resonating. Raahosh is scared and steals Liz away, whilst Liz is furious and wants to do everything she can to get away from him.  I can't wait to read the next one BUT I'm going to save it for when I've read the rest of my TBR for the month. I'll be dreaming giant blue aliens otherwise. 

  Well.  That was fun. As always - I was TikTok influenced and saw this little gem in my Kindle Unlimited library so thought to myself, why the hell not? After a couple of semi-serious and intense books, I fancied filling my Saturday afternoon with something fun and this absolutely delivered.  The first 20 pages or so in - I could tell this was going to be an easy read but there is definitely a dark element that the trigger warning on the first page relates too. After that? Plain sailing. Georgie has been abducted by aliens. On their way to deliver their cargo of human females, the aliens crash and disappear, with plans to collect them later. Georgie becomes elected leader and goes off to find out where they are and is snared in a trap but Vektal.  What I wasn't expecting was a plot.   I had such high hopes for this book. The idea of a dystopian / science fiction novel that is looking at What Could Have Happened was something I was super invested in but instead.. it just seemed like a guessing game.  I am completely honest with myself here and fully accept that I may just not be intellectual enough for this book. I don't doubt that it is a great piece of work and has some really good messages and themes but it's one of the few books that I personally think would be better on screen.  And I have no shame in admitting it - I read the plot summary on Wikipedia once I'd finished and suddenly the book made sense.  Set in a world where Germany and Japan won the war, the US has been split into 4 territories, Africa has been destroyed and the Mediterranean Sea has been drained to become farming land.   After been sat on my bookshelf for nearly 2 years, Ready Player Two was one of my chosen reads for February. The first one was fantastic and I remember being so immersed in the whole thing, even to the point where I considered picking up some old style arcade games to see what all the fuss was about.  But where Ready Player One was a love letter to the 80s and retro computer games... Ready Player Two may as well have been a ransom note.  I enjoyed being back in OASIS with the High Five and Wade/Parzival's decline after winning the hunt definitely came across as realistic. As I rule, I'm not a sci-fi fan. I don't know why, it's just never really pulled me in. Maybe it's deeprooted trauma from being made to watch Star Wars on repeat when I was younger both by my Dad and my brother. My brain just shuts down and I'm not interested.  But a few years ago I went to see The Martian and I thoroughly enjoyed it. (If I remember rightly I was on a bit of Matt Damon binge at the time). I then read Artemis and though that was cool as hell, and then I went back and read The Martian... incredible. So when Project Hail Mary came out, I was obviously going to give it a go.  I cannot put into words how impressive I found this book.
