The Summer Skies - Jenny Colgan

I'm not going to hark on about my love for Jenny Colgan because if you've paid any attention to my previous reviews - you'll know that I ADORE her. So when I saw that her next release was available to review on NetGalley I was crossing all of my fingers in the hope that I'd be approved... And I was! It was strange but lovely to be reading a stand alone novel of Jenny's after following the lives of those on Mure and Kirrinfief for so long but the story of Morag and her family in the highest reaches of Scotland still felt like home to me.  Following in the footsteps of my Father and Grandad, Morag is a pilot. But she long ago decided that the little runner plane that was used by locals to island hop wasn't enough for her. After an incident that's left her more than a little bit shaken, she's struggling to get back in the cockpit but thanks to the safe and dependable Hayden, things are looking up for her. But as her Grandad comes down ill with the flu, she...

It Happened One Summer - Tessa Bailey

I *know* I read these out of order but thankfully, I don't feel like it ruined anything for me. I read Hook, Line and Sinker back last year and thoroughly enjoyed watching Hannah and Fox's relationship develop.  Piper is a socialite known for her immaculate style and wild antics. But when her step dad cuts her off after she breaks into a rooftop pool bringing all of her friends along... she's left without a clue in how to navigate the world.  Finding herself in a remote fishing town, she's having to start again and learn how to look after herself. Immediately making an enemy out of brooding fisherman Brendan, she sets about restoring her late fathers bar.  It's your classic moody/sunshine romance and as we have come to expect from Tessa Bailey - there's a little bit of spice too.  Did I prefer the first or second? Personally, I preferred Hannah's story, but that might just be because Fox is more my type of guy. But this was a good little gap filler in betwe...

A Parisian Christmas Bake Off - Jenny Oliver

Six years this has been on my TBR! Six whole years. And on Christmas Eve, after finishing The Hunting Party, I wanted to maintain my run of seasonal reads but also, read something perhaps long forgotten from the depths of my Goodreads. This books has all the marks of a Hallmark story; Rachel is a teacher - her mum, a baker, passed away years before, and since then Rachel hasn’t been able to bake for fear of reigniting painful memories. And then the children in her class (with the help of the local village) sign her up to a baking competition in Paris with a fallen-from-grace celebrity chef.  Rachel finds herself in the beautiful city during the week before Christmas, making new friends and finding her lost love for baking. This was such a sweet easy read and perfect for getting you into the wholesome Christmas spirit.

The Ex Hex - Erin Sterling

For a while now, I've been wanting some Autumn themed books that weren't horror or thriller based. You know what I mean - like how Christmas books are basically romance but with snow. I wanted Autumn/Fall leading up to Halloween. The pumpkins are implied but not the whole story.  And whilst The Ex Hex is absolutely witchy - it delivered on the Autumn feels.  The Ex Hex tells the story of Vivi - 9 years ago she had a summer thing with one of the Penhallow boys and he broke her heart. Vodka drunk, she did want any teenage witch would do. Together with her cousin, they hexed him! But years later, they had no idea of what the impact would be.  Small town romance with a spooky twist, I absolutely adored this book and will be on the hunt for the second book next Autumn. Apparently there's even going to be a third!

Hook, Line and Sinker - Tessa Bailey

Like many, I have been suckered into the world of BookTok recently and as a result of experiencing the ACOTAR series, I've developed a taste for books with a bit of.... spice. Tessa Bailey seems to be one of the more "mainstream" authors delving into the detailed romance style so this and It Happened One Summer were going to be my starting points. Unfortunately, of the two-book series, only the second was available to buy in my local Waterstones but I didn't let that stop me - I dived right in.  It didn't disappoint. There were hints of the previous book in the plot but for me, enough information was given that this one works well as a standalone.  LA based Hannah is heading back to Westport. Not only does she get to see her sister Piper after months apart, but also the gorgeous Fox who she has found herself a friendship with after 7 months. But through texting consistently, they've become good friends through sharing their love of music.  The only problem i...
