All hail the book that dragged me out of my reading slump back in October!
After a bit of a dry couple of months bookwise - I'd seen a fair amount about the ACOTAR series on BookTok and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I ordered the first book but, resisted buying the rest of the series straight away. I think I was only about 100 pages in before the rest of the series was in my basket - thankfully delivered the next day (Thank you Prime).
I devoured the whole series in a week and ever since, I have been reaching for the vibes that I got when I first read them. I've come close but so far, nothing has hit the mark. I wasn't planning on a re-read any time soon - I've got the Throne of Glass and Crescent City books waiting to be started BUT when I finally managed to talk the best friend into taking the leap, I couldn't resist joining her along for the ride.
So as a break between my other books, and a reward for being so far into my 2023 reading challenge, I allowed myself a visit back to Prythian.
If you haven't read the series already then I'd suggest you skip the rest because I can't *not* include spoilers.
First and foremost - I'm looking at Tamlin like he's my ex. I cannot believe I was ever rooting for that guy. He is clearly manipulative from the start yet I remember not understanding how he wasn't going to end up being the good guy.
I also have similiar feelings for Rhysand to be honest. Whilst I understand the charm, there are elements of his lead up that stick out as being similar to Tamlin - though arguably Rhys' are move physical and obviously violent. I don't doubt that this is of course part of his Night Court persona but it still doesn't sit right for me on re-read.
I also completely forgot who the first book is such a Beauty and The Beast adaptation. Even down to Feyre's father turning up at the Spring Court.
However the biggest thing for me was - how the hell did this book grab me so hard before I'd ever HEARD of Cassian? I completely forgot that the Bat Boys didn't even feature in ACOTAR.
I'm holding off on ACOMAF until I've finished the rest of my TBR for the month, but needless to say - I'm enjoying the re-read so much.
