November Reading Round Up!

November was a GOOD book month.

Annoyingly, only one of my reads came from my existing TBR list thanks to my new NetGalley account but that just means I have some cracking recommendations to make for next year! Here's a quick list of all the books I devoured last month and links to the full reviews!

Looking Out for Love - Sophia Money-Coutts

A lovely little palette cleanser that hit the spot without overcomplicating it! Easy to read however the characters weren't the most likable for me. I received an ARC from NetGalley and the book is out in February 2023!

The Lodger - Helen Scarlett

A great mystery set in the wake of the First World War, this kept me guessing throughout with good characters and a tale that took you on a journey through post-war London and the heartbreak that followed. I received an ARC from NetGalley but the book is out now!

Hook, Line and Sinker - Tessa Bailey

A small town romance, friends to lovers with all of the boxes ticked. This is the sequel to It Happened One Summer however worked perfectly well as a stand alone. Fox is your classic dreamboat fisherman and you will not be disappointed!

The Ex Hex - Erin Sterling

Dumped and vodka drunk, Vivienne puts a hex on Rhys. All is forgotten about until he comes back years later for the annual holiday in their little town. Together, they must work to reverse the curse that threatens the magic of the town. Perfect little Autumn/Halloween read!

The Last Tale of the Flower Bride - Roshani Chokshi

I struggle to summarise this one because it was SO GOOD. The narrator doesn't disclose anything about himself, only that he has met the mysterious Indigo and has fallen in love with her. As their marriage develops, Indigo's view on the world and how it intertwines with the Otherworld comes to light. Absolutely beautiful book. I received an ARC from NetGalley and the book is out in February 2023!

Cackle - Rachel Harrison

Annie has been dumped, she can't afford to live in the city anymore so has to move to a small town and start her life again. She meets the stunning Sophy but no one else in the town is happy about it. What is Sophy hiding and how is Annie going to get over the love of her life? A story about learning to love yourself first.

Thirty Days In Paris - Veronica Henry

Escapism at its finest - Juliette is going to spend thirty days in Paris to make peace with what happened to her thirty years ago. She's reinventing herself and reconnecting with old friends. A brilliant story of rediscovering your independence and identity. I received an ARC from NetGalley and the book is out in February 2023!

Holiday Read - Taylor Cole

Hawaiian Candice has moved to the coast of Cornwall to uncover a family secret but she's at a dead end. Whilst waiting tables, she meets writer Alexis. I received an ARC from NetGalley and the book is out in May 2023!

Billy Summers - Stephen King

Review coming out 5th December

My 12th Stephen King read. Great story about a Hit Man who only kills Bad Men and his last ever gig. Fantastic read as always from the master. Full of suspense and some good nods to other books in the King universe.

The Love Hypothesis - Ali Hazelwood

Review coming out 7th December

The Fake Romance trope done well! Olive grabs the first guy that she can find to embark on her deception and it goes exactly how you'd expect. Brooding MMC and unaware FMC - with a good scene of spice.

Lady Macbethad - Isabelle Schuler

Review coming out 17th December

Lady Macbeth before the ploy to kill Duncan... this is one of the best books I've read this month, possibly even this year. An extremely strong and powerful female lead and a prequel that Shakespeare would be proud of. I received an ARC from NetGalley and the book is out in March 2023!

A Touch of Darkness - Scarlett St Clair

Review coming out 13th December

I loved the idea of this - a retelling of Hades and Persephone however it didn't hit the mark I expected or wanted it to. But I'll still be reading the next instalment at some point in December so I'm going to persist!

The Great Gatsby - F Scott Fitzgerald

Review coming out 15th December

A classic that always been high on my TBR list, I wanted a nice sub-200 page book to round off December and The Great Gatsby was my book of choice.

A Merry Little Meet Cute - Julie Murphy & Sierra Simone

What a bloody lovely Christmas beaut this was! If you're venturing into spicy romance books and have been on Instagram or TikTok recently, it's likely that you would have seen this little gem doing the rounds.  Bee is a content creator for ClosedDoor (think.. OnlyFans) and Nolan is an ex-boyband bad boy that are both cast in a Hope Channel (think... Hallmark) Christmas movie, Duke The Halls. Nolan is reinventing his career and trying to rid himself of the bad boy image whereas Bee is brought in last minute because the Lead Actress has been taken ill.  The best part? Bee was a massive fan of Nolan in her teenage years and Nolan has been following Bee on social media for a while. And they're getting paid to get to know each other.  I adored this book. It was everything I wanted it to be and is perfect for those of us who love a Hallmark Christmas movie but wished there was a bit heat in the romances. the positive message around Bee's work is brilliantly handled, not to me...

Orphans of The Storm - Celia Imrie

Started: Thursday 7th July 2022 Finished: Saturday 9th July 2022 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Given my obsession with the story of the Titanic in my younger years, this is the first book I've ever read which is based around the tragic disaster.  I bought Orphans of the Storm on a whim on one of my Waterstone's sprees - and I vowed to make it my next read. What I didn't realise is that it is based on the true story of the last surviving passenger from the disaster. And it was incredible.  So incredible that the minute I got home, I gave it to my mum to read and I've just bought a copy for one of my ex-colleagues because the history was common ground for us.  I didn't know what to expect - I knew it would pull at the heart strings but I didn't appreciate quite how much.  The way it's written, Imrie really allows the suspense and bewilderment to build. Of course, it's no spoiler to say - The Ship Sinks At The End - but the way it is written from two separate perspe...

The Colorado Kid - Stephen King

After the masterpiece that was Fairy Tale, I knew The Colorado Kid wasn't going to match up. But it pains me to say that I think I went from one end of the spectrum to the other within days.  I will be clear - I am very aware that the reason I didn't enjoy The Colorado Kid is the exact premise of the book - no one likes an unfinished story. Which is exactly what this is and is intended to me.  Two old-school local reporters are sat discussing unsolved mysteries of their local town with their new colleague and the case of The Colorado Kid is recounted - creating more questions than there are answers.  I've read King's other two Hard Case Crime books (Joyland and Later) and I thoroughly enjoyed them so I was gutted this didn't hit the mark. I'd love to see this developed into a full-length thriller at some point because I think the story would be absolutely crazy but for now, I'll have to sit with this as my lowest rated Stephen King book to date.
